Family Support Specialist - Family Treatment Court

The role of Family Support Specialist – Family Treatment Court (FTC) is to provide support services and supervised visitation to families involved with the Sullivan County Family Treatment Court project. Responsibilities include meeting with families in the office and in their homes, transporting clients, supervising parent visitation and court reporting. This position may also provide brief resource navigation to other clients referred to TLC Family Resource Center. Some evening or weekend hours preferred to meet parent scheduling needs.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TIME ON TASK EXPECTATIONS 


Family Treatment Court (50-70%) 

  • Provide parent education and training through the Protective Factors Framework to parents referred from TLC Recovery Program FTC project to improve parenting skills and child health and safety 
  • Connect parents and children to internal and external services to address identified individual and family needs  
  • Attend bi-weekly TLC FTC Multi-disciplinary team meetings to coordinate services and goal plans for FTC involved families 
  • Role model Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) in interactions with parents and children 
  • Provide supervised visits to FTC families identified for Parent Aide according to State and TLC policy 
  • Provide transportation to Parent Aide clients according to State and TLC policy 
  • Document transportation and visits clearly, objectively, and according to State and TLC policy (Apricot) 
  • Complete bi-weekly, monthly, and yearly Parent Aide report to DCYF with support/oversight from the Intake Coordinator 
  • Provide reports and or testimony in court as needed  
  • Attend meetings called by case workers or others involving Parent Aide families 
  • Attend monthly DCYF provider meetings 
  • Attend Family Treatment Court meetings as needed 
  • Connect families to follow up services post-FTC including TLC CFSS or other recommended programs 


Community Resource Navigation (20-40%) 

  • Respond to requests for resources and/or assistance applying for public benefits from community 
  • Generate and follow up on referrals to outside agencies and internally to TLC programs  
  • Follow-up with referrals who did not enroll or did not respond to contacts with a letter offering agency and community resources 
  • Document resources, referrals, follow up actions, and results in Apricot database 
  • Remain current in available community resources and how to access them 
  • Complete relevant trainings for public benefits application platforms 
  • Respond to requests for and manage enrollment in FSS cafés and workshops  
  • Develop a collaborative network for sending and receiving referrals 
  • Represent TLC at various resource support meetings and community events 
  • Work as a contributing member to the Family Support Services Team and attend FSS and TLC meetings 


Training/Meetings/Supervision 10% 

  • Participate in supervision and self-evaluation 
  • Participate in required program specific trainings and approved professional development  
  • Meet time on task expectations    
  • Attend all required TLC team and staff meetings 

 

REQUIREMENTS SKILLS/EXPERIENCE: 

 

  • Bachelors Degree or higher in related field or 4+ years of related experience 
  • Active support and promotion of public health policy 
  • Prior experience working with families with substance use disorders 
  • Effective and objective verbal and written communication skills 
  • Able to pass a background check and clear driving record 
  • Willingness to learn new evidence-based service models 
  • Proof of COVID vaccination

Supervisor:  Family Program Director                                   Salary:  $20.00-$24.00                          

Location:  Administrative Office, Travel                                Hours: 40 hours per week
